History

Charlton Rovers AFC was founded in 1976 by the parents of young children attending Glenfall Primary School in the Charlton Kings area of Cheltenham, which is approximately 90 miles west of London and mid-way between Birmingham and Bristol.

Famous old boys include former Cheltenham Town players Martin Devaney, Michael Jackson and Stuart Fraser.

For the 2006-07 season we have eleven teams. There are four teams for boys and girls playing in the 7-a-side league in Cheltenham, two at under 9 and two at under 10. In the Cheltenham Youth League, there is one team at under 11, two at under 12, one at under 13, two at under 14 and one at under 16. There are also teams in the local Cheltenham League for older boys and dads. See Teams.

In May 2002 we won a Gloucestershire FA County Cup for the first time at under 16, beating Shirehampton Colts from Bristol 3-1.

The club is licensed by the Football Association as a mini-soccer centre and runs a Saturday Club for about thirty 7-8 year olds (school years 2 and 3) each week. The club does not have its own ground and plays on pitches provided by the local council and three nearby schools.

Charlton Rovers have taken part in the SC Olve under 12 Tournament in Belgium since 1987 but only appeared in one final, in 1990 beating Olve 3-0, although we have appeared in another five semi-finals.
